Dephemerember 2023: Selfie in A Bubble

My “Selfie in a Bubble” isn’t really either of those things.

Sticking with my bird theme, I put an owl image behind a hole (my “bubble”) in a piece of cardboard. The cut out circle was in the packing that I collaged over. I backed it with plain paper to cover up the stitching. This piece will probably get used as a belly band.

Tall and narrow strip of collage using book pages, music paper, and scraps of painted paper. In the middle is a circle with an eastern screech-owl in it.

As I mentioned before, Dephemerember has been inspiring me to make other things for my journal as well. The blue jay tag has a collage with a watercolor background on the front and writing space on the back.

A collaged tag blue, yellow, and green watercolor background, music paper, a blue jay sticker, and stickers that say "All you have to do is fly" and "chirp."
The stickers are from a bird-themed Recollections set.
Back of a tag with floral washi tap across the bottom and narrow ribbons tied through the hole at the top.
The back of the tag has washi across the bottom and a homemade hole protector at the top.

I used a sheet of music from one of my childhood lesson books and an image of a regent bower bird to make an envelope as well. The edges have been reinforced with washi tape.

Front of an envelope made from sheet music, with a regent bowerbird sticker as the focal point of the decoration.
The regent bowerbird is cut from an old calendar.

Which is your favorite?

  1. “All you have to do is fly” speaks to where I am emotionally. I must trust these fragile new wings.

    1. Jump off the cliff and build your wings on the way down! Scary, but it works (metaphorically at least).
