I continue to make really simple objects for Dephemerember. I guess that’s just what I have the capacity for right now. The fourth prompt is “Clocks & Wings.”
I found an image of a watch face and some sandhill cranes in my collection of saved magazine images for my journal card. There’s gesso on the clock face to make it look more like a moon, and so that the birds are more prominent in the image. I also used some of the wonderful art paper I was given for the background.
More items inspired by Dephemerember (without actually matching a prompt): two pockets and two tiny notebooks.
The pockets are painted book pages glued to used index cards and then collaged over with scraps of different papers. I reinforced the upper edge of both of them with some washi tape.
The notebooks have heavy card covers. The larger one is covered with pages from an out-of-date tree field guide and then collaged over with tissue paper and an image from a card. The smaller one is made from more fun gifted paper and decorated with washi tape.
I sewed a few cut-down pages of notebook paper into both covers. The larger notebook is lines with art paper and has a couple of stickers just to dress it up. Also, the ribbon tie is taped to the back cover so I don’t lose it.
Do you prefer sewing or gluing your pages into your books? (I’m a sewing fan.)

Looking good! So the clocks and wings thing – is that to show that time flies? I suppose maybe that could be an undercurrent of the theme. It sure is flying.
That’s one way to interpret it and I’m feeling that, too. Where did 2023 go? I was thinking of how time is running out for some bird species while I made this.
