Summer’s here, and my brain has checked out. Again. It happens every summer. As soon as it gets hot, my brain declares a strike.
It doesn’t matter that I’ve had more years without a summer break than I had with, the habit is ingrained. This is what happens when your school schedule gives you the three months of summer off year after year after year.
My brain has been trained to believe that it doesn’t have to do squat until September. I say, “How about a little writing?” and it crosses its arms, snorts, and looks away, as if I don’t even exist.
It gets annoyed with me when I make plans to work on a novel in July. I get annoyed with it for being so damned difficult.
Sometimes, though, I let my tantrum-throwing “it’s summer, I don’t wanna!” brain win, which is why I will not be blogging in July. Part of the month I’ll actually be on vacation, and part of it I will be at home, editing a novel that is nearly done. Not blogging is the bone I am throwing my rebellious brain.
So I’ll see you in August (once I convince my brain blogging is a good thing.)
Happy July!
