While I still insist we should be expecting less rather than more of ourselves due to the stress and strangeness of life during the pandemic, I also believe that we should keep making things.
Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.

The simple creative tasks I am doing right now — hemming a shift by hand or knitting yet another sock — are calming and centering me in a time when I constantly feel off balance. When I can’t make something myself, I am enjoying the art of others — re-reading The Lord of the Rings for comfort or watching My Cousin Vinny so I can laugh.
When it’s not safe to leave home, turn to art.
Whether you make it or consume it, there is comfort to be found there.
How are you using art to get through these challenging times?
Hi Kit,
Great ideas for chilling out during the “lock downs.” I found this website and it is another art-type activity you can do. https://www.sadanduseless.com/recreated-art/ Recreate famous art at home with things around the house. Its really cool.
Cheers,
Julianne
I love the recreated art! My sister thinks we should try to do one ourselves. But she’s also super busy teaching her son, so it may be a while before we can get it together… Great to hear from you! I hope you are healthy and safe.
Art has become even more important now and I’m thankful I have the resources to do art; I dont have to worry, at least right now, if i can pay the bills.
I feel the same way: making things has always been my way to relax and feel calm in troubled times, and it’s more important now than ever. Stay healthy and keeping making art!
