A range of knitted projects inspired by Middle-Earth.

I love Tolkien’s books, especially The Lord of the Rings, and I also love knitting, so I went looking for knitting patterns inspired by Middle-earth.

My search was inspired by this wonderful knit pillow by Kelly of Knitigating Circumstances. Lyle Stafford offers a free chart of the poem, although he admits it isn’t perfect.

For those interested in knits that serve a purpose, Natalie Moreva has intricate mitten patterns that are functional and beautiful. My favorite are her Gates of Moria and Tree of Gondor patterns.

Rohan Banner scarf by IrishElinor (Free pattern)

Last but not least is another double-sided scarf for fans of the Rohirrim. This free pattern from IrishElinor is based on the banner of Rohan.
