More Than One Project in February

My quick project of the month for February was completed on February third. I chose it because I knew I would be away from home for two weeks and didn’t expect to have the time or energy for crafting, but I was wrong. I actually got a lot of other things done.

Before I even left on my trip, I sewed a traveling case for my double-pointed knitting needles. I recently bought a pattern to make a large case for my entire collection. Inspired by its design, I created a smaller travel-sized case two days before we left.

This turned out to be a great way to use up the last scraps of one of my favorite novelty fabrics: rollerskating dogs. Despite the small amount of fabric left, I was able to get full images in the more prominent spots.

After our trip was over, I did some mending, including fixing a hat that I somehow tore. While a little hand sewing is always satisfying, I was still looking for something to make. I reviewed my POM list, thinking I could get a head-start on one of the other projects. I was also tempted to finish another really old project that I had forgotten all about, only I feared it needed a lot more than four days to complete.

My visibly mended baseball cap.

In the end, I put the forgotten project on my POM list and relegated the Irish chain quilt to bonus POM — something to work on whenever I finish my official POM before the month is out.

This meant I got to start on the Irish chain. So far I’ve tested different layouts, selected my fabrics, and cut about three-quarters of the strips I’ll need. I was just getting ready to sew when March hit.

Fortunately, I am so excited about working on my March POM that I didn’t mind putting the Irish chain quilt away. But more about that next week.
