The Magic of Our “Dreary Earth”

I’m always on the lookout for signs of magic, so I really appreciate Alix E. Harrow’s reminder that magic is in the eye of the beholder.

If you are wondering why other worlds seem so brimful of magic compared to your own dreary Earth, consider how magical this would seems from another perspective. To a world of sea people, your ability to breathe air is stunning; to a world of spear throwers, your machines are demons harnessed to work tirelessly in your service; to a world of glaciers and clouds, summer itself is a miracle. — Alix E. Harrow, The Ten Thousand Doors of January

NOTE: I will be taking the month of December off from blogging. See you in January!

    1. It’s one of the wonderful things about books. They open our eyes to the world around us.
