Yesterday, I watched a video on nature journaling that I found really inspiring. While it does include a few drawing tips, what I loved about it was the suggestions for questions to ask and things to think about to help you come to knew insights and deeper consideration of the world around you.

John Muir Laws covers some of these things in his book The Laws Guide to Nature Drawing and Journaling, but there was something about how he presented them in the video that really struck me. Part of it was the personal nature of the stories, part the humor and energy of his delivery. It’s a long video (86 minutes), but well worth watching, especially for anyone interested in observing the natural world.

The video is titled Level Up Your Nature Journal, but it has valuable suggestions for anyone trying to record what they observe around them, even beginners. He gives great suggestions to help broaden the subjects you observe and your thinking about them. I also love the work of other artists that he shares: Amy Tan (the author) and Akshay Mahajan.

What do you think of this video? What other resources do you turn to for inspiration when it comes to nature journaling?
